AVAILABLE SUMMER TRAINING COURSES
GENERAL TRAINING (Ages 12-13)
Two weeks' introductory training in the various training streams: Seamanship, Drill & Cerimonial, Music, Leadership, Fitness & Sports and Sailing; familiarizes cadets with life at a Sea Cadet Summer Training Centre.
WHICH TRADE GROUP IS FOR ME?
Sea cadet training is divided into distinctive course areas, comprising various levels. Cadets are given an opportunity to choose courses that most interest them. The following is a general overview of the available training streams:
- Seamanship
Duties of the watch on deck, navigation, motor boat operations, navigation, a sea phase of 3 to 6 days duration, sea survival in a life raft, shipboard fire fighting, small boat and sail repair, small arms training (air rifle), service whaler pulling and sailing, powerboat operations, shipboard ceremonial duties, sports, first aid, instructional technique and leadership training.
- Sailing
Coaching level I (theory), powerboat operation, small boat rescue training, life saving fitness, Canadian Yachting Association sailing levels (White Sail to Green Instructor), sports, first aid, instructional technique, and leadership training.
- Drill & Ceremonial
Foot drill with and without arms, drill commands, naval ceremonies, naval field gun drill, physical fitness training, radio procedures, sports, first aid, instructional technique and leadership training.
- Fitness & Sports
Cadets receive the necessary skills to become physical recreation trainers at a Summer Training Centre, sports first aid, instructional technique, and leadership training.
- Music
Band, music levels from basic to level V, instrument maintenance, technique, intonation, ear testing, sight reading, music theory, band drill, ensemble, conducting, sports, first aid, instructional technique and leadership training.

Cadets will also enter into a Level of their trade, based on Age, and where applicable, skill level:
BASIC COURSES (Ages 13-14)
Three weeks in duration. Cadets learn basic skills in their selected trade. Cadets must be 13 years old to apply. Those who successfully complete training will receive a $180 training bonus. Basic courses are conducted twice over the summer at the following summer training centres: HMCS ACADIA, HMCS ONTARIO, HMCS QUADRA, and Blackdown ACSTC
INTERMEDIATE COURSES (Ages 14-15)
Six weeks in duration. Cadets learn intermediate skills in their trade group. Cadets who successfully complete training will receive a $360 training bonus. Trade Group Two training is conducted once over the summer at the following summers training centres: HMCS ACADIA, HMCS ONTARIO, HMCS QUADRA and Blackdown ACSTC.
ADVANCED COURSES (Ages 15+)
Six weeks in duration. Cadets learn advanced skills in their trade group. Cadets who successfully complete training will receive a $360 training bonus. Trade Group Three training is conducted once over the summer at the following summer training centres: HMCS ACADIA, HMCS ONTARIO, and HMCS QUADRA.
